THEME: Taking Care of Business

How do you "take care of business" in 2009? It goes beyond fiscal sustainability, profitability and productivity, to caring for the health of your business – the psychosocial environment, the psychological and emotional well-being of your people, and the interaction that your company has with the community and the environment. It requires an understanding of the link between running your business in a healthy way and the effect this has on improved mental well-being of your people, improved recruitment, improved retention and a return on your investment. It means being proactive, preparing for and managing change, ensuring that the changes going on in your organization meet your business objectives, keeping people engaged and fostering a positive business environment.

The five conference streams will examine the key elements of organizational success:

  • Making It Your Business – how to assess, interpret data, evaluate, develop useful healthy business frameworks and strategic plans and link it all to your business objectives.
  • Small Business – Small Communities - a tool kit for small businesses (and large businesses with regional offices in small communities). Simple, low-cost strategies that tap into the community approach to workplace health.
  • Working Through the Ages – what people need through their “work-span” for positive physical and emotional health. Different options for aging workers, such as progressive retirement and shorter work ‘years’ with sabbaticals to serve the community or travel.
  • Creating Extraordinary Cultures – management practices that create a culture of mental well-being. How to assess whether or not your work culture is healthy.
  • Taking Care of Me – ideas, activities and strategies related to investing in personal rejuvenation and well-being throughout the organization.
